Kindergarten students were so excited this week in anticipation of Grandparents and Special Friends Day! They were busy making special gifts for our guests to take home, and also rehearsing their songs each day so that they will be ready to shine on stage at the concert. The children cannot wait to show our visitors how much fun their classrooms are. They will play a fun game of Bingo, make a special memory jar, and have a tasty snack with their guests. The day is sure to be an exciting one. We wish everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving!
This week the book fair was in full swing, and our children were very excited about it! They enjoyed the opportunity to shop, to meet the authors, and to ask questions, and some of us even had books signed. Each author gave a wonderful presentation and talked about his or her journey to become a writer. They spoke a lot about how their own life experiences and interests influenced their ideas for the books that we see in stores today. Their comments were especially inspiring and interesting to us as the children move into a new writing unit about “memories”. Each child will share a personal item or an experience with the class. We will talk about how these items or experiences evoke special feelings for them. These shares will help the children to plan and to later write their Memory Books which will be shared at their Writing Celebration in December!
This week the children ignited their spark for reading! While using their “super powers” to read their “Just Right” books, the children became very excited about reading. Super powers include picture power, pointer power, word power, and letter power. A few children even took out their books to read during center time! They are very excited to share their books with you this weekend. During our group discussions this week, we talked about building reading stamina, which we will continue to work on during the upcoming weeks, and what it means to be an “avid” reader. Our current book fair will help to develop and nurture their spark and make reading even more fun and engaging. We are so proud of our super Kindergarten readers!
