We are ready to celebrate! All week the children have been putting the finishing touches on their writing pieces to share at our celebration. The children have grown so much throughout this process. We have some great authors and illustrators in kindergarten. Blue and Green K will also come together for an amazing stage performance in the Winter Concert before we say goodbye for the break. From all of us to all of you, we are wishing you a happy and healthy holiday season, and we will see you in 2015. Have fun!
After sharing their memory items with the class last week, the children were eager to begin writing their books. We had many group discussions about how writers tell a story from beginning to end and how good authors are able to convey emotion in their writing. The children applied these practices in their own writing and also focused on attention to detail, such as adding spaces, and some even added punctuation. Their illustrations are full of expression and labels. We are so proud of our young authors, and we cannot wait to share our final pieces with you at our celebration next week. It is sure to be a great day!
This week our kindergarten students had a visitor! Mrs. Glynn, our science teacher, visited each of our Kindergarten classrooms to discuss forces and how they change the way something moves. The children had already been experimenting with force during their center time with some objects that Mrs. Glynn provided for them early in the year, so they were ready for some great group discussion. They learned that an object's position can change when it is pushed or pulled by forces. They can cause objects to start moving, go faster, go slower, stop, or change direction. After Ms. Glynn provided the children with some background information, they went off to do some experimenting of their own pushing and pulling some objects at the tables. We had so much fun! Mrs. Glynn left materials in each classroom for further exploration and discovery. We cannot wait until her next visit!
