We could not resist learning all about our pumpkins once they arrived on Monday morning. To kick off our pumpkin theme we charted what we already know about pumpkins. This was followed up with several fiction and non-fiction texts to support our learning. Later in the week the children went through a scientific exploration of the pumpkin as they created observational drawings of the pumpkin exterior. Chef Wallace helped us take a closer look inside the pumpkins when he came in to help us carve them open. Afterwards, we completed our second observational drawing. The children decided we should have a tasting party to make sure we tried several delicious pumpkin treats such as pumpkin bread, pumpkin soup, and pumpkin seeds. After our tasting, we graphed our favorite pumpkin food as our math lesson. During our word study time, the children played games with the letter “p” and even created a class story during Writing Workshop about our pumpkins. We are pumpkin experts, and we are definitely ready for Halloween!
