Tally Marks

5/8/2015

Tally it up!! Wow, these kindergarten students are masters at gathering information.  After a large group discussion about what a tally mark is, how it looks, and how it represents groups of five, the children started to compare things. For example, students took morning surveys about what they like better.  One idea was ice cream versus cupcakes.  Since we were on the subject of our sweet tooth, we then surveyed students to ask them if they prefer chocolate chip cookies, peanut butter cookies, or sugar  cookies.  The children looked very official conducting their surveys using their clipboards to record the results. We will continue to reinforce this topic in morning messages and daily events such as lunch count.
