Showing respect is an important aspect of learning to socialize and live in harmony with each other. When we are being kind to others, sharing and helping each other, we are showing respect. As a continuation of our kindness theme and in celebration of Valentine's Day, this week we discussed the link between showing respect and having friends. We played a game called “Thinking of Others” where the children listened to different scenarios and shared how they thought they should handle them. After we played the game, we talked about making sure to take time each day to show our friends that we respect and care about them. Having friends makes everyday better, especially when you know that your friends will be thoughtful and caring about you! Following this discussion, we read a book called Heartprints and then made a “heartprint” for a friend. The next day we exchanged heartprints with a hug. After this activity, the children started making heartprints on their own during Choice Time and performing acts of kindness all day long. Our hope is that they will remember this lesson of kindness and respect for each other always!
