The children learned about vowels during Reading Workshop this week and how they are the glue that holds words together. They had fun going on a hunt through their books for words with long vowels and short vowels and sounding out the long and short sounds; they had great success. Some children enjoyed reading the same book together aloud and pointing out the long and short sounds in words in the text. This activity was a great way to get the children excited about reading. As a follow up, we will revisit this lesson next week in reading partnerships and introduce some new concepts to add to their hunt. The students have a great mindset for Reading Workshop; they are motivated and determined and are having a lot of fun helping each other.
