Tally Marks

3/31/2017

This week kindergarten students enjoyed learning about tally marks and how to use them. First, they acted out human tally marks on the classroom floor, and then they used straws and popsicle sticks to make tally marks during morning meeting. During morning share time, the children shared their opinions with the class about varied subjects. For example, we asked them if they prefer ice cream or cake and do they enjoy going to the beach or swimming in a pool.  We tallied up all of our answers and realized that counting by fives using tally marks is a quick and easy way to track our results. The children are looking forward to taking their own surveys next week; they will have the opportunity to ask their classmates many different questions and then tally up their results.
