Tally It Up!

4/26/2018

Do you prefer summer or fall?  Would you rather have vanilla or chocolate ice cream?  These are just a few examples of questions the kindergarten students asked each other this week as we learned about tally marks and how they make it easier to keep track of numbers by placing them in groups of five. First, we revisited counting by fives, and then we asked the children to conduct their own surveys, which was a lot of fun!  They surveyed the class and kept track of the students on a checklist. The children recorded their results and verified that they had twenty-one responses ensuring everyone was included in the survey. They were able to total their results easily now that they know how to use tally marks and enjoyed sharing their results with the class.
