The Kindergarten started off the week with an exciting field trip to the Cuellar’s supermarket. We traveled to the Shop Rite in Clifton and went on a tour of the store. The children learned fun facts, such as where the various produce items come from, and how much dough and sugar the bakery goes through every week. We even learned that the floral and balloon section is one of the most popular in Passaic County! Students were given a special scavenger hunt mission to find a dozen different types of food as they toured the store. The children were then served a delicious lunch, filled with fun and heart healthy choices. A big thank you to the Cuellar Family for having us!
The beginning of a new year has inspired us to stop and reflect on how much we have grown in kindergarten. We began our new year by reading Peter's Chair, by Ezra Jack Keats, a story about a young boy who grows up and has to come to terms with the fact that getting older means growing too big for the things he once used. Many children made personal connections to this story as they, too, have had to pass along their items to younger brothers or sisters. Our writing this week took the shape of "When I was a baby I could not...but now I can...". Children then began setting their sites on things they can get better at this year. The children have shown so much pride as they realize how capable they are despite being only 5 and 6 years old.
