It's December, and look how far we have come! We are becoming more confident as readers, and we are practicing our skills each day. We now have so many super powers and strategies to help us achieve our goals! This week the children received another two super powers from Cougie, our stuffed Cougar. During our lessons, they learned that reading aloud to yourself and to others makes you want to bring your books to life. When you read aloud to others, you want them to listen, so the way you use your voice when you read is very important. You can either sound like a robot…that.is.very.boring, or you can read in a smooth voice….aaaaahhhhh, that sounds so lovely! Reading smoothly does not happen the first time you read something; you have to reread it to smooth out your voice. This new power is called REREAD POWER. The children also experimented with PUNCTUATION POWER. We read a book from our Wishy Washy series that helped us to recognize different types of punctuation. We discussed exclamation points, quotation marks, and periods and why and when they are used. The children are even beginning to use exclamation points and periods in their writing pieces. With the help of our super powers, all of the pieces are coming together, and we could not be more proud of our Cougars!
