Kindergarten students have begun their school year examining themselves and asking, "What makes me, me?" This guiding question for the year encourages students to begin thinking, noticing, and wondering about themselves. This question shapes the social studies curriculum and integrates all disciplines. Repeated inquiry and varied exploration to answer this question help children express uniqueness, appreciate differences, and see themselves within their home and school environments. This past week we zoomed in on our eyes. Our eyes not only help us notice the world around us but they can be a mode of communication as well. We learned how to say hello using eye contact and practiced showing emotions through our eyes. With the help of mirrors, the children noticed details in their own eyes while highlighting similarities and differences between their own eyes and the eyes of friends. Look for our display of eyes on Back-to-School Night.
